Decay, Detain
A few years ago, my grandmother developed dementia. It's difficult not to be able to have a full conversation with her, but I find assuagement in that she’s so obviously the same woman she was 10 years ago. She doesn’t know I'm her grandson, but she knows she loves me and that I love her. She knows I'm important to her. She still has her personality, her love, and her character.
This progressive series was made with this reality in mind. It's an apple slowly degrading, eventually into nothing. The last image shows the empty plate the apple once sat on, resembling a fingerprint. Even though her mind is slipping, my grandmother is still my grandmother, her mind's fingerprint still present.
